CHATTANOOGA, TN (WWSB) - The Chattanooga Fire Department responded to a bizarre call having to save African elephants from Interstate 24.
The elephants were travelling from Georgia and headed to their winter home in Sarasota, FL. The three elephants are named Makia, Lou, and Lovie. The semi-truck they were in had a malfunction and caught fire under the hood. The drivers of the semi-truck decided to pull off the road and tried putting out the fire. They called 911 and tried escorting the elephants out of the of the trailer.
The Chattanooga Fire Department arrived on scene and was successful in putting out the fire and keeping the elephants unharmed.
The elephants and their owners were able to complete their journey to their winter home right here on the Suncoast.
