In the coming weeks, people will start decorating for the holidays.  This is the year many of you could upgrade your holiday lights to something efficient and safe.

Sarasota County is in the giving mood by offering a holiday light exchange program.  Here's how it works.  Just bring your old, energy wasting, incandescent lights to one of five exchange events in the coming weeks and get up to two strands of LED holiday lights, free of charge!  They're offering both white and multi-colored LED light strands.  These lights are not only beautiful to look at, they're green in more ways than one!

"The technology is great, it is much more efficient, you can save up to 90% on your holiday lighting costs and they're also safer.  You can see, they're cool to the touch, they don't get hot like the incandescents do, so its less of a risk of fire and they also last a lot longer, they last up to 10 times longer, so its a really good investment, it's going to last you for many years into the holidays," says Sarasota County Sustainability Manager Lee Byron Hayes.

The holiday light exchange program begins this Sunday, November 18th and continues through December 2nd at select fire stations in the county.  For information on where and when those events take place, click here:  www.EnergyUpgradeToday.com
