PUNTA GORDA, FL (WWSB) - An eagle is on the mend after being shocked on a power line. Nearby residents hear a bang on Monday, and saw the big bird floundering in a canal.

Dr. Robin, from the Peace River Wildlife Center and PGPD Officers Farley and Pribble responded to the scene and rescued the eagle.

The center reports that the bird had "extensive burn marks over most of his body."

After several days, veterinarians report that the eagle is making good progress. If he continues to heal, the wildlife center said it will take several months for his flight feathers to grow back, at which point it can be released back into the wild.
