Donated barricades aim to increase parade security

SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - The Sarasota Holiday Parade is Saturday and organizers are stepping up their safety efforts.

Parade organizer Danny Bilyeu says public safety has always been a top priority from the beginning. This year a donation of barricades hopes to make things even safer. The barricades were first used during the city's Fourth of July celebration and are said to be able to stop most vehicles. The news has many in the community reacting.

"I feel pretty safe going to the parade with family and friends and the police and our protectors will be there, so hopefully it all works out," said Olga, a Sarasota resident.

And others like L. Reynolds, agree "It's lovely, the parade, and I think we are very safe in Sarasota."

Organizers expect about 4,000 participants and an additional 10,000 spectators to line the parade.
