BRADENTON, FL-The Conquistador Historical Foundation announces that a one hundred thousand dollar donation has been made to the foundation from a long time resident of Bradenton. Art Engelhard is a prominent member of the community and a forty three year member of the Hernando De Soto Historical Society. Art has given so much to the society from volunteering at events such as the Seafood Fest, to meeting with school children as a Conquistador on the Crewe of DeSoto. He wanted to set in place the means to continue a long term commitment for the student exchange program with Bradenton’s sister city of Barcarrota, Spain.

The De Soto student exchange program enables a student to travel to Spain and stay with a host family in Barcarrota for a three month period. Soon after, a student from Spain will arrive to stay with a host family in Bradenton. This unique and unforgettable educational and cultural experience further deepens ties between the two cities.  Mr. Alfonso C. Macias Gata, Mayor of Barcarrota Spain, commented  by stating “how grateful the city of Barcarrota is with such a large commitment. This is one of our strongest bonds between our cities, and pleased to continue to grow the program for a very long time.”
