SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - After sustaining damage from Hurricane Irma, Sarasota Jungle Gardens has been forced to cancel one of the most popular holiday events on the Suncoast.
The annual "Holiday Lights" event would transform the pathways of jungle oasis into a massive light display, full of holiday cheer. Organizers say due to a badly damaged tree canopy and busted walkways, the resources are just not there to pull off the display this year.
While all of the animals at Jungle Gardens are safe and sound, one-third of the jungle walkway remains impassable. However, the lights won't stay dark forever, Jungle Gardens plans to bring Holiday Lights back in 2018.
