SARASOTA, Fla. – A bicycle rodeo teaches children on the Suncoast the rules of the road Saturday morning at the YMCA. It's a way to educate cowboys and cowgirls, ages 5 to 12, the proper way to ride bicycles, and learn the various rules of operating a bicycle on public roads and sidewalks.

A crime prevention officer from the Sarasota Police Department, Linda Deniro, said it is important for kids to learn bicycle safety at an early age. Deniro said “bicycle safety is something that is a learned process" that all kids should be taught.

Saturday's event was hosted by All Children's Hospital, the Sarasota Police Department and the YMCA.
