NORTH PORT, FL- The Bayflite medical helicopter rescue service will continue to operate out of the city of North Port, despite some uncertainty about its future there.

At a City Commission meeting Tuesday night Commissioners voted to extend the lease between the city and Bayfront Health, which operates Bayflite.  Under the new agreement Bayflite will continue to use the Heli-pad next to city hall, and keep a helicopter there for emergency calls.

Earlier this year residents living near Bayflite's landing location complained of noise at all hours.  Then Bayfront sent an email suggesting it wanted out of its lease early.  But positive response from the community asking the city keep Bayflite prompted Bayfront to request an extension on its lease.

Bayflite will now stay in North Port at least until 2016.
