ENGLEWOOD, FL-District detectives made one arrest and have obtained warrants for two additional people that were allegedly involved in the burglary of an Englewood area pawn shop last week.

On Tuesday, February 4, deputies responded to Kings Pawn shop, located at 2485 South McCall Road in Englewood, and found that the front window of the business had been smashed out. A display case inside the business had also been smashed and several firearms taken.

Detectives assigned to the case obtained security video from the store that showed several suspects dressed in hooded shirts and other concealing garments enter the store.

Following up on several leads, detectives gathered sufficient information to arrest Jayson Matthew Rice, 17, of 252 Annapolis Lane in Englewood, on charges of Burglary of a Structure while Armed, Committing a Felony While Wearing a Hood, four counts of Grand Theft of a Firearm, Petit Theft and Resisting an Officer Without Violence.  At one point during the investigation, detectives met with Rice and they saw a photo on his phone of a rifle similar to one of the guns that was stolen.

When detectives met with Rice and his parent on Monday, Rice is alleged to have become combative, resisting the detective’s efforts to place him under arrest.  He was taken into custody and transported to the Charlotte County Jail.  After being booked, he was turned over to the custody of the Department of Juvenile Justice.

According to the arrest report, Rice is alleged to have participated in the burglary along with two other people.  Warrants have been obtained for those individuals with similar charges for each.
