9/11: A history lesson

BRADENTON, FL - With the 12th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks upon us, many people make the pledge to never forget what we lost last day.

But, for a middle school student, there are no personal memories to turn to. Some of them were not yet born on the day the Twin Towers fell and the Pentagon smoldered.

Diane Vestrand, an 8th grade history teacher at Nolan Middle School in Bradenton, understands this.

Shortly after that fateful day in 2001, she had her students write letters describing what happened, along with their reaction to it.

12 years later, those letters are serving as a valuable teaching tool for students who were too young to remember the attacks themselves.

ABC 7 Reporter Trevor Shirley was on hand for Wednesday's history lesson, and will  bring us more on this unique and emotional experience.
