SARASOTA - Two area businesses are coming together in an effort to bring the historic Iwo Jima Memorial to the Suncoast.

Digital Image Business Solutions and Veteran Air say they are formalizing their partnership to start a non-profit so they can begin raising money to purchase the statue.

The goal is to purchase the statue and relocate it from New York to a place in Manatee or Sarasota County for public enjoyment.

The statue is an original model for the bronze Iwo Jima monument that sits in Arlington, Virginia.

The two businesses plan to have all of the details on the new partnership finished by August 31st.

Earlier this month, efforts by a group called the Sarasota Public Art Fund to move the statue here were called off getting resistance from the Sarasota city commission.
