Neighbors on edge after attempted rape reported

OSPREY, FL - Investigators are looking for a man who may have attacked and tried to rape a young girl in Osprey. It was reported Monday afternoon around 3pm near the area of Washington avenue and Oak street.

The young girl says she was walking home from a friends house when she says she was attacked. Forced into the woods where the man tried to rape her. She says she was able to punch and scratch the man and escape.

Here is her description of the suspect

-white male

-70's

-5'4' 180 lbs

-grey hair, balding

-grey t-shirt

-older bright red truck, dent on passenger side door near window

The incident has the neighbors like Many Ruberg on edge. "I think everyone has just been on high alert. Everyone is keeping an eye on their children and everyone else's. Trying to make sure everyone is staying safe."

Sheriff's Office spokesperson Wendy Rose says they're looking for answers. "Detectives are working to corroborate that story. We have no additional accounts or additional reports of similar type incidents."
