NOKOMIS, FL - A fatal motorcycle crash on New Years Day has sent waves through the boating and biking community.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, 85-year-old Polley Lawrence of Sarasota pulled out in front of 52-year-old David Yarzab on U.S 41 in Nokomis. Yarzab later died at Sarasota Memorial Hospital.

Yarzab was the general manager of the Venice Yacht Club. Members and staff like Douglas Laudenslager say they're in shock. "Dave was just and all around great guy. Great friend, mentor, and boss."

He was also an avid rider. Those he rode with in a riding club called "The Dogs" like Jerry "JD" Donella say too many people are not checking twice. "Five seconds is not going to change your life. Just getting someplace five seconds sooner is not going to have that big of a difference. I will tell you that it changed a very good mans life."

FHP says they investigated nearly 250 motorcycle crashes here on the Suncoast in 2013 which resulted in 202 injuries and 18 deaths.

Some are now even calling for more testing of older drivers. We will have much more on this story coming up this evening on ABC 7.
