VENICE, FL. - A Tampa woman is busted in Venice for DUI on her way to a previous DUI trial in Naples.

According to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, a witness on I-75 called in reference to a reckless driver. They gave deputies a description of the vehicle and the license plate number.

A deputy found the SUV at a fast food mart in the 1000 block of Knights Trail Road in Venice around 8:44pm.

The driver, 37-year-old Jennifer Buckley of Tampa, was staggering out of the store carrying a 16-ounce can of bud light beer. After dropping the beer, she picked it back up and got into the vehicle as to drive off.

The deputy knocked on the window and Buckley asked if she thought she should be driving. Buckley said 'yes'. She then went on to say that she was on her way home to Tampa, and the deputy advised her she was driving the opposite direction. She then said that she was due in court in Naples for a previous DUI.

Buckley said she bought the beer, because she was nervous and hadn't had anything else to drink. She refused a breath test and failed field sobriety tests.

Inside Buckley’s vehicle deputies found the can of beer just purchased, a warm bottle of bud light beer on the passenger seat and two empty 100 ml bottles of Smirnoff vodka.

This is Buckley’s third DUI in seven months. She was arrested in Lee County in December and Collier County in April.

She has been released from the Sarasota County Jail on bond.

I must have mis-read the story, I thought it said they released her from jail on bond. I thought that meant law enforcement. Regardless of who did what, she was DUI 3 times. Isn't there a 3-strike rule? She's pitiful and in need of help. She's crying for it. She's dangerous to self and others. There must be something on the books that can prevent her from further testing fate. It shouldn't take a new law or anything; there must be something that can stop her and those like her. Hope Florida (LE or Judicial or Legislature or whoever is in charge of drunk driving) can move toward safer procedures.Don't take it personally. You're obviously in the loop -- it isn't personal. It just may take more work with what's on the books.

Slatts, Really? Law enforcement did not let her out. We keep putting her in. The judicial system keeps letting her out. It doesnt matter what you do to these people. I arrest them all the time after they have served time and have been revoked permanently for these types of offenses. We live in a liberal country where we try to rehab people who cant make sound decisions instead of locking them up. Pressure you law makers to make the penalties stiffer.

It sounds like law enforcement has made a poor decision by releasing this woman. 3 DUI's in 7 months and they let her go? She's in trouble and should be taken off the road. She needs to get straight. What further offense must she commit to get help? She's about to kill someone on the road. What's up with Florida?
