SARASOTA - Two Sarasota Police officers are being credited with saving the life of a woman they say was attempting to poison herself with carbon monoxide Tuesday.

According to Sarasota Police, around 7:15am Tuesday, a concerned citizen alerted Officers Williams and Gee of a car parked in the Trail Plaza parking lot on North Tamiami Trail with a hose running from the exhaust pipe into the trunk and back seat.

The officers approached the vehicle to find an unresponsive woman in the vehicle with the doors locked and windows closed.

The officers shattered the driver's side window, opened all the doors, and removed the woman from the vehicle.  She was treated at the scene and taken to Sarasota Memorial for further treatment.

The woman later told authorities that she was despondent over the death of her child.
