SARASOTA, FL - All 171 officers in the Sarasota Police Department will now carry the X2 Taser. Not to be confused with the X26 Tasers, which are being replaced.
The X2 has a longer battery life, an officer can fire two shots with it instead of just one, and it's yellow instead of black.
Each officer will receive four hours of training with their new weapon. Good thing, considering they can be deadly.
According to Amnesty International, since 2001, some 500 people have died in the United States after being shocked by Tasers.
What's justifying the need for 171 new X2 Tasers on city's streets, and what are the guidelines for their use? ABC 7 Reporter Ray Collins will bring you the answers.
