MANATEE COUNTY, FLA. – Multiple agencies descended on 10 acres of land in Manatee County. According to a website, the residence at 20010 East State Road 64 operates the Napier’s Log Cabin Horse and Animal Sanctuary which is a no-kill rescue shelter.
Manatee County Sheriff spokesman Dave Bristow told ABC 7, over 300 animals were located on the property.
“What we found here is just absolutely horrible conditions with hundreds of animals mainly dogs, and mainly small dogs,” said Bristow.
Bristow said the sheriff department began an investigation of the property on December 9, 2013. A search warrant was obtained and served on Wednesday.
Bristow said the owners of the property face possible charges including fraud and cruelty to animals.
A Manatee County building inspector deemed the residence unsafe and prohibited the use of the building until repairs and inspections are made.
Several animal rescue agencies are housing and caring for the dogs during the investigation.
ABC 7’s Todd Dunn is following this the story and will have a complete report during Wednesday’s 5:30 News.
