SARASOTA COUNTY, FL - Interstate and road travel around the Suncoast a bit hectic this time of year. The closing of parts of I-75 near North Port has not helped.

Friday afternoon, repair crews were still out trying to fix the overpass where a dump truck with its bed raised smashed into it. The 10 mile span between Venice and North Port closed from 7pm Thursday night until around 8:30 Friday morning. There were a number of other accidents along I-75 in the area as well.

With last minute shoppers traveling about this weekend, law enforcement officers are asking everyone to make sure they're paying even closer attention. "Right now their mind is focused on what store they are going to go to next. What they are going to buy. They're on their phone. They're texting. Everything they shouldn't be doing while driving. They need to be more focused on their driving. More focused on surroundings," says Officer Paul Joyce with the Venice Police Department.

Part of knowing your surroundings is knowing when the interstate is going to be shut down again. The troubled area in the south bound lanes near North Port will close again Friday night at 7pm.

Southbound traffic will be diverted off the interstate at exit 191, and onto River road. It will continue south on U.S. 41, then north onto Sumter Boulevard where traffic will be allowed back on the interstate.

It's expected to open back up around 7am Saturday morning but there could be delays. Additional closings could follow so check back at mysuncoast.com for updates. We will have much more on the latest tonight on ABC 7
