NORTH PORT, FL - Building officials with the city of North Port say permits for new home construction this year are double what they predicted. 240 so far this year. More than 30 in August alone.

Those officials also say nearly all of the 1,200 homes in which construction was started and stopped have now been finished. Only about a dozen remain.

They believe it means more construction is on the way.

Those with the North Port Economic Development Corporation say it's good news for developers and the service industry.

We will hear from both on what it means for North Port and those looking for high paying jobs coming up this evening on ABC 7.
