The American Heart Association's annual Sarasota/Manatee Heart Walk

  • 1

We know that walking can help prevent heart disease and Saturday it did that in more ways than one. Hundreds of people came out and walked at Payne Park in Sarasota for the American Heart Association's annual Sarasota/Manatee Heart Walk.

Participants not only benefited from the exercise, but the American Heart Association and the American Stroke Association benefited from the fundraising connected with the event. Sadly, heart disease kills more Americans than anything else and stroke ranks third on the list of top killers. ABC 7 helped sponsor the event, and our own Scott Dennis served as its emcee this year.

The American Heart Association is the nation's oldest, largest voluntary organization devoted to fighting cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Founded by six cardiologists in 1924, their organization nowincludes more than 22.5 million volunteers and supporters working tirelessly to eliminate these diseases. They fund innovative research, fight for stronger public health policies and provide lifesaving tools and information to save and improve lives.
