The University of Michigan School of Public Heath conducted one of the first studies to show a significant association between BPA and cancer development. In the study researchers found liver tumors in mice exposed to BPA through their mothers during gestation and nursing.

The study results showed 27 percent of the mice exposed to one of three different doses of BPA through their mother’s diet developed liver tumors and precancerous lesions. Mice whose mothers received higher doses were more likely to develop tumors.

BPA is a chemical most commonly found in plastics, cash registers, and the lining of food cans. Studies have shown that at least 90 percent of Americans have some level of BPA in their bodies.
