I am lucky enough to be one of Dr. Vogelbaum's patients. He used the intraoperative imaging and 5-ALA in about a 6 hour surgery just one week ago. and I am doing better than fine in recovery. I was only in the Cleveland Clinic from Wednesday (surgery) and home Friday!
This was the second surgery (done by other neurosurgeons) to remove as much of the Stage 4 GBM as possible. While I was reluctant to go though another procedure I am thrilled to have Dr. Vogelbaum and his team on my side. At 60 years old, I did not have seizures or pain, in fact my symptoms were mild by comparison, but glioblastoma multiforma must be taken seriously.
I don't know what the future holds, but I am certain there will be a rich future for my family and me. This has also given my life a new course in trying to help others facing this disease. We are a small but widely ranging fraternity and long survival rates are steadily becoming the norm thanks to the work and dedication of Dr. Vogelbaum and others.
