Sarasota, FL (WWSB) -- The statistics from the CDC are pretty surprising: one in five new patients diagnosed with HIV are between the ages of thirteen and twenty-four, yet less than ten percent of high school students get tested for the disease.
Today is National Youth HIV & AIDS Awareness Day - a good reminder to talk to your teens and young adults about prevention of the disease and getting tested early. "I wish they understood that those at the highest risk are ages 13 to 24, and they're not exempt just because they're young. They're also not exempt because they may have only had sex one time - that's all it takes," says Camille Homer, and RN with CAN Community Health.
