All of us say it, some of us do it.  What's your New Year's Resolution? 

Americans, about 45%, usually make a New Year's Resolution, 38% of that will be weight related resolutions.  With 8% continuing a success rate.  If you're nodding your head and thinking "Yup, I'm one of those people, "  take heart.  Your objective is a noble one, and if accomplished, will surely do wonders for your health.

Making small changes to your eating habits can have a big impact on your calorie intake.  Giving up that daily soda habit saves 150 calories. Eliminate 250-450 calories by switching a starbuck's muffin to a bowl of oatmeal at your desk 250-450 calories saved.  Swap your latte (180 calories) for a cup of java and nonfat milk:120 calories saved.  Making all three of these changes could save you as much as 765 calories a day.  In 1 week that could be as much as 5,355!!  And that's without eating your veggies.

A good fitness program consists of exercises that works the whole body.  A cardio work improves the function and health of the heart, lungs, and blood vessels.  Weight-bearing exercise enhance the function and health of the bones, muscles, joints, and connective tissues. Start low and then gradually progress. What most people forget is that you didn't become deconditioned and out of shape overnight.  So you shouldn't expect to become well-conditioned overnight.

What can you do to stick to your resolution this year?  Well for starters, resolutions are more effective when you write them down on paper.   Breaking your resolution or goals down "lose a pound a week" rather than generalizations to lose weight.  This could mean the difference between actually sticking to the resolutions and giving it up by February 1st.  You're a lot more likely to reach your goals if you focus on the steps you need to get there rather than the end results.
