A simple drug in short supply at hospitals across the country

A simple drug found in your own pantry is reportedly in short supply at hospitals across the country.

Sodium bicarbonate solution, also known as baking soda, is used in many treatments including chemotherapy, as a poison antidote and to help patients whose blood has veered into acidic ranges.

The nation's two suppliers, Pfizer and Amphastar, are not able to meet medical facilities' demands.

The companies can't guarantee more sodium bicarbonate supplies until at least June and maybe not until August in some cases.
