Sarasota man finds burglary suspect sleeping on his floor

SARASOTA, FL. - A Sarasota man comes home to find a burglary suspect sleeping on the floor of his home.

According to Sarasota Police, the owner of the home, John Haupt, arrived at his apartment located on the 800 block of Orange Avenue in Sarasota around 12:45 am Wednesday and found the suspect, Christopher Whitesell, sleeping on his living room floor.

He immediately called police. Officers arrived and apprehended the suspect. Police say Whitesell was intoxicated and possibly under the influence of other narcotics.

Police also say Whitesell may have lived in the apartment sometime in the past, because his driver's license has the apartment's address listed on it.

No items in the apartment were taken.

Whitesell was arrested and taken to Sarasota County Jail. He is charged with Burglary of a Structure and Criminal Mischief.
