SARASOTA, Fla. – While several Suncoast projects were vetoes from the state budget Monday, one thing that didn't get cut was the expansion of Sarasota County Technical Institute.

The $3 million project to build a new campus in South Sarasota County was given approval. State Senator Nancy Detert of Venice pushed for state help in building a new campus.

In addition to the new location in North Port, a library that will be open to the public will also be built at the school.

Currently, SCTI officials are still in the site selection process.

Funding for First Step Sarasota and a veterans counseling program at USF were also given approval through the budget signing.
