Former Sheriff's deputy Frank Bybee sentenced to 15 years in prison

SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - Former Sarasota County Sheriff's Deputy Frank Bybee has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Judge Donald H. Mason of Charlotte County, handed down sentencing today for disgraced Sarasota sheriff's Deputy Frank Bybee, who was found guilty of kidnapping and exploitation of the elderly in October.

Judge Mason sentenced Bybee to 15 years in prison, 10 years of parole and 500 hours of community service for kidnapping. Bybee was also sentenced to 15 years in prison for exploitation of the elderly, to be served concurrently with his other sentence.

Before reading his decision on sentencing, judge Mason talked with Bybee about his actions and how he considered the sentencing.

"“You’ve lost your family. You’ve lost your job. You’ve lost your reputation,” says judge Mason.

Judge Mason also said that Bybee's actions were incomprehensible to him and that Bybee would forever be known as a bad cop.

Bybee was seen crying as the judge read over his past accomplishments and ultimately sentenced the former Sheriff's Deputy to prison.

Frank Bybee's ex-wife, was also in tears as she listened to the sentence being read.
