In 1990, The Manatee County Sheriff Office conducted a criminal investigation regarding the allegations of sexual battery against Joseph May. He was later charged and in 1993, was released on bail from the Manatee County Jail. After not showing up for court dates, a warrant was obtained for Joseph May for fleeing prosecution for the crime of Capital Sexual Battery.

On June 20, 2014, Joseph May using the alias Michael Camp, was arrested in Eagle River, Alaska by the FBI and the Social Security Administration. It's unknown as to when May will be brought back to Manatee County. May was a deputy with MSO in the 1980's.
