BRADENTON, FL. - An 11-year-old Bradenton boy lost his finger to his own dog.

Manatee County Sheriff's deputies say on Friday the boy stuck his hand into his families dog cage to pet it.

The 7-year-old Alaskan Malamute, "Sassy", bit off his pinky.

The boy's father took the dog out of its cage and shot it. He then cut the animal's stomach open, and retrieved his son's finger, but doctors were not able to reattach the finger.

Detectives say their investigation supports the father's version of events.
