You know, there are occasional Mondays where I am so full from an action-packed weekend that I look forward to the chance to rest back at work. This weekend was no different. We had fashion designers, secret stashes of whiskey, and an appearance by 80’s icons.
The weekend started with Guy Bedarida’s guest appearance at Sak’s 5th Avenue. This was the designer’s third appearance at the Sarasota store, and they made no bones about celebrating the occasion. It was a full on party with champagne flowing at the Westfield Southgate location. The big deal was that the renowned designer rarely visits the same store twice, let alone three times, as this visit celebrates.
This weekend’s Whiskey Obsession Festival proved to live up to its name. Hundreds packed Michael’s on East ballroom as they enjoyed the various pours of whiskey that dozens of vendors had to offer. My favorite? Lucky number thirteen which offered an oceanic pour from a barrel aged on board a ship.
Meanwhile across town, iConcept filled the municipal auditorium with a fashion-conscious crowd as they raised money for Art Center of Sarasota. The evening’s high point was a hat contest led by Sarasota's Finest including Mary Ann Robinson and Ray Pepper.
And The Go Go’s were the headliners at this year’s Firefly Gala, causing even Sarasota’s most demure crowd to get on their feet and booty dance with these 80’s icons. The best part was watching people revert to their megafan status from the eighties as they danced the night away to these pop cultural heroes.
As always, if you spot any celebrities around town, snap a photo and send it to firstname.lastname@example.org.
