When Sherry Janes moved to Sarasota she didn't know anyone and as  a single woman her social life was pretty bleak and she had a hard time meeting men that she would like to date.

She tried on line dating, even considered a Matchmaker, which in Sarasota can cost around $10,000. But then she came up with a better idea. A friend in Chicago told her about a singles group there and she decided to launch a similar group here.

They'll have their first meeting on Friday night at 6 at the Chart House Restaurant. This event is open to everyone, you don't have to be a member.

Sherry plans for the Sarasota Singles Society to attend theatrical, sporting , musical and all other types of events. There will be gourmet dinners, big parties and trips, so people can get to know each other, make friends to go out with, travel with, and maybe even fall in love with

If you decide to join after Friday's meeting, membership dues for the rest of the year are $25, and for the first 6 months of next year $125.

Sherry expects a lot of deep friendships and maybe even serious romances to develop.
