SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - This year's Pineapple Drop and New Year's Eve Celebration is expected to draw thousands to Downtown Sarasota and Sarasota Police plan to be in full force.

"We'll be out in masses and the roads will be closed basically from Orange Avenue to Downtown Main Street to Five Points Park and the roads around Five Points. Much of that area will be barricaded off", says Sergeant Bruce King with Sarasota Police.

Sgt. King says the entire force will be working the event that will draw more than 25,000.

King is advising people celebrating to leave backpacks home as well as valuables.

"If you do have valuables and show up please conceal them, put them in your trunk or at least have them out of sight, says King".

He also says if you plan to bring alcohol think twice.

"If you're going to drink buy them from the vendors because you need to be inside and make sure you don't violate any open container laws", says King.

Sarasota's New Year's Eve Pineapple Drop and Celebration will be on Main Street and Lemon Avenue.

The event is free.
