SARASOTA, CO., FL - Sarasota County Sheriff Tom Knight is expected to appear before the Venice City Council this week to speak about the future of the south county jail.
The facility, which consists of a few holding cells at the Venice Police Station, is manned by Sheriff's deputies and in the past has been called too costly to operate.
Closure would mean that police officers in Venice and North Port will have to transport inmates to downtown Sarasota at the time of their arrest.
Critics say that will keep the officers out of service for too long.
