SARASOTA, Fla. -- A loggerhead turtle that was rescued by the Coast Guard last weekend appears to be recovering.

The female turtle was found in distress swimming off Longboat Pass with a sharp object sticking out of its shell.

Crews took the 230-pound turtle to Mote Marine in Sarasota to be treated. Because of the quick actions of the people who reported the turtle and the Coast Guard’s response, she is now in stable condition.

Mote specialists believe a boat struck her, causing multiple lacerations.

The turtle has been named "Mrs. Turt Lee" after a member of the Coast Guard team that rescued her.

ABc 7's Todd Dunn will have more on this story coming up tonight on ABC 7 News.
