NAPLES, Fla. -- Troopers say a female black bear was killed by a car early Tuesday morning on Interstate 75, and its two cubs were also seen attempting to cross the road.

It happened around 5:30am in the southbound lanes just past the Immokalee Road exit (#111).

According to Florida Highway Patrol, a southbound Ford Mustang came upon a 285-pound female black bear crossing from right to left.  In the dark conditions, the car was unable to avoid the bear and hit it.  The bear crawled to the median, where she died.

As another car approached the same area, two black bear cubs, approximately 200 pounds each, were seen on the outside shoulder.  One cub attempted to cross the road and was hit by a Toyota Corolla before heading back to the outside shoulder of the road.

The two bears were seen leaving the interstate towards the Wilshire Lakes development.

If these bear cubs are spotted in the area, Florida Fish & Wildlife ask you to call 1-888-404-3922.

Two people in the Mustang suffered minor injuries.

Three other rear end collisions occurred from the traffic backup.
