Holiday Eggnog Recipe

  • 0

Merry Christmas! Glad Yule! Happy New Year! No matter the holiday, enjoy it one step more with a delicious cup of eggnog.

It's simple! With egg yolks, sugar, milk, cream, and nutmeg, you too can create that favorite holiday drink, eggnog. Modify this recipe to your personal taste with rum, bourbon, or brandy, or as a nonalcoholic holiday treat. Add the alcohol of your choice just before serving, or keep it on the side so guests can flavor their eggnog just to their liking.

Eggnog Recipe Ingredients:

* 4 cups of milk

* 1 1/3 cups sugar (or substitute an alternative like stevia)

* 1 dozen large egg yolks

* 1 cup of chilled heavy cream

* Optional - Grated nutmeg

* Optional - 1/2 cup bourbon

In medium saucepan, whisk your milk and sugar over medium heat until sweetner is dissolved, approx. 1 to 2 minutes. In a large bowl, whisk the egg yolks. While whisking, slowly pour the heated milk/sweetner into the whisked yolks.

Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook for 20 to 25 minutes over medium-low heat, stirring often. Once it's thick enough to coat the back of your stirring spoon, pour the mixture into a fresh bowl. Now, stir in the cream (and optional bourbon). Let the finished eggnog cool completely before covering. Refrigerate until chilled and serve with an optional garnish of nutmeg. Enjoy!
