Savor Sarasota is a tasty local treat

SARASOTA, Fla. -- There’s only one week to go for the “official” Savor Sarasota dining specials, but there are some amazing deals and specials planned that will keep going all summer long. Below I give you my impressions of some of the Savor deals I’ve already had the opportunity to sample, along with a preview of those summer specials. Enjoy!

If I had to pick one restaurant that’s clearly leading the Savor pack, it would be The Table Creekside. With grilled octopus on risotto, veal skirt steak with tomato fondue sauce, sea bass that just melts in your mouth, and a delicious gorgonzola flan all served alongside a gorgeous water view, The Table is a keeper! Not going to make it out before the Savor Sarasota event ends on June 14? Not to worry: The Table Creekside will start its summer-long $25 three-course menu on Sun., June 15 – it’s the perfect way to celebrate Father’s Day. And yes, that $25 price is even lower than the Savor Sarasota deal. Also this summer, The Table is offering a selection of wines for only $15 each. With award-winning cuisine available at these prices, you’ll want to make reservations at The Table a dinner staple all summer long.

There’s definitely no scrimping on portions at Carmel Café, where the meals really wowed us -- particularly the meatball lollipops, shrimp ceviche, lobster bisque and braised short ribs served in a sauce that’ll have you figuring out ways to discretely lick your plate. Now get this: Carmel Café has a prix fix menu every Sunday and Monday for only $14 per person. And for the large eaters out there, the restaurant will make any plate a large portion for just $5 more. Believe it or not, this is a year round deal, folks!

Miguel’s Restaurant on Siesta Key is as delightful as I remembered it 20 years ago, and I certainly won’t be waiting that long again before going back. Miguel’s food reminds me of the classic French training I received at Johnson and Wales, and their Savor Sarasota menu is spot-on, both in its style and large portions. Check out the Coquille St. Jacques with Champagne, Les Crevettes de Portobello, La Veal Paprikash (a personal favorite), and for dessert the flawless chocolate mousse or mango tarte tatin.

Peruvian flavors have no boundaries at Selva Grill. For Savor Sarasota, Selva has put together a lovely menu of ceviche (although sorry non-ceviche fans, the small plates are your only option), including their famous Selva Skirt steak with plantains and a melt-in-your-mouth salmon with a banana leaf steamed crab and spaghetti squash side. As a special bonus, Selva will continue to offer the Savor Sarasota menu through the end of June.

Both lunch and dinner wowed us at Café Americano, with fried fresh mozzarella and zucchini sticks served alongside the amazing new marinara sauce. On a hot summer’s day, Americano wins with the bright fennels salad with grilled shrimp, or the chicken saltimbocca for heartier eaters. But it’s the homemade ricotta-pistachio donuts with drizzled honey dessert that add the Wow factor. Americano’s two-course lunch comes with a soft drink or coffee, and for dinner the delicioso three-course menu features a chopped antipasto salad, steamed clams with chorizo, rainbow trout veracruz and a knockout steak pizziola. Good news: the dinner prix fix at $29 per person will be offered at Café Americano all summer long with select bottles of wine just $20!

Chef Judi will be back later in the week with even more Savor Sarasota reviews and news of even more great deals that will last all summer long.
