Adios, Adobe …

El Adobe, the 40-year-old Mexican restaurant beloved by many Suncoast residents (just check our Facebook comments), has announced that it will be closing on May 10. Owner Mary Keim plans to retire, leaving fans to seek out salsa, chips and margaritas somewhere else. While I’m not sure what will be built on the property, I imagine it the current building will be torn down to make room for something else. Gosh, I wish that just once someone would open a good Jewish deli in a location like this, but I’m not holding my breath …

New summer hours …

Eat Here, located on Main Street in Sarasota, will be closed for lunch during the off-season summer months. While I will miss the double cheeseburger lunches outside by the fountain, the veal meatloaf on the dinner menu will suit me fine. (Exact date they stop serving lunch is still TBA.)

Speaking of Main Street …

Tequila Cantina has new owners and we expect a name change to Z's after a few months. Not sure what Z's will specialize in, but I will let you know the "scoop" as soon as I can.

Key foods …

Out on Longboat Key, Isabelle's has closed and is now Longbeach Café. The restaurant is located at 6836 Gulf of Mexico Drive. The menu includes many of the same items that Isabelle’s served, including biscuits and gravy. While I dare not share how much I love Whitney Beach for its quietness and tranquility, I am happy to see the Whitney Plaza get someplace good.

Now open …

Derek's Rustic has opened. Once located in the Rosemary District, Derek’s has found instant success at his fairly new free-standing location on S.R. 70 in Bradenton. As always, Chef Derek takes a creative turn with the cuisine, highlighted by bold flavors and whimsical desserts. (See Lunch with Chef Judi for our tasting tour.)
