SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) in partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), announced the implementation of the Florida Disaster Food Assistance Program in Sarasota and Manatee Counties, to help individuals and families impacted by Hurricane Irma.
DCF and USDA, will be in Sarasota at the Westfield Sarasota Square mall located at 8201 Tamiami Trail, Sarasota 35238, Oct. 13 to Oct. 17.
They will be in Manatee county, at the DeSoto Square Mall located at 303 US 301 Blvd. W., Bradenton 34205, Oct. 15 to Oct. 17
Each location will be open 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. DCF advises that individuals seeking aide, arrive early as lines may close prior to 6 p.m. based on time to process those already in line.
To be eligible for the assistance you must be a residence of Sarasota or Manatee county and not receiving food assistance through one of the regular Food Assistance Programs.
Eligible individuals and families must have also suffered a disaster-related loss, such as damage to their homes or self-employment property, loss of food, reduction or loss of income, or have incurred other disaster related expenses.
For expedited service, individuals are encouraged to pre-register for assistance online no later than the day before visiting the Food for Florida site. The application is available on the Food for Florida website.
