BRADENTON, Fla. – In an update on a story we've been following closely since last week, Children's Academy of Southwest Florida is closing its doors today after the state denied its application to renew its license.

That denial comes after the long-time Manatee County private school and daycare was served with an emergency order to suspend portions of its services after a four month old infant died while in the school's care.

A state investigation turned up violations at the facility that investigators considered to be significant, from a teacher testing positive for cocaine and marijuana use, to others using improper procedures to care for the infants.

"A few of the violations that we uncovered from the facility’s video include staff propping of bottles, not properly placing babies on their backs to sleep, and staff seen roughly picking up infants by one arm," says Natalie Harrell of Florida Department of Children and Family.

“All of the teachers here have been great with the kids. I’ve never seen anything that I wouldn't bring my son here. He’s going to continue to stay until the end,” says parent Chris Keller.

We do know that before the child died, she was fed and placed in a crib on her stomach. Officials are awaiting the autopsy to find the cause of death.

ABC 7’s Bobeth Yates will have more on this story in our evening newscasts.
