MANATEE COUNTY – Eddie Shannon, "The Coach", can always be found on the Manatee Hurricane sidelines. And he is always smiling.
Shannon, the long-time coach at the old Lincoln High School in Palmetto, and then later at Manatee, was elected to the Florida High School Athletics Association Hall of Fame Tuesday.
He lost just 2 games in 7 years at Lincoln. He was coach there for 15 years until the school was closed due to the end of segregation, and at Manatee for 19 years.
It couldn't happen to a nicer guy. Shannon is 89 and will be inducted in April.
