SARASOTA - Forida's damp summer climate makes pressure cleaning a must. Our homes, patios, driveways and sidewalks can get very dirty with mold and mildew. And now a new business takes pressure cleaning to a new level. It's completely safe for the environment.
Sarasota's John Cloud recently started Gorilla Kleen, his environmentally-friendly pressure cleaning business. Growing up near Sarasota Bay motivated Cloud to do it the right way -- that means using water heated to 200 degrees. Even on an 80 degree day, it creates steam. And if chemicals are needed, he makes sure they're biodegradable.
"But most importantly, we've got the technology on board to collect and filter and recycle the water and keep it out of the storm drains and consequently, out of our local waters,"
says Cloud.
The business's vacuum prevents the dirty water from going down the storm drain. "So we have a number of tools, sandbags and that sort of thing that we build a dam around the storm drains and put our collection system, our vacuum system to suck it up, bring it up into a 7-step filtering process, including a charcoal filter and then re-use the water for cleaning again," says Cloud.
A stretch of sidewalk at Sarasota's Gillespie Park is now good as new. You never realize how dirty a sidewalk can get, until you see it cleaned. Even old, dirty gum is no match for Cloud's pressure cleaner. His customers appreciate that it's all done with a green touch.
"The biggest seems to be that people are really pleased to work with somebody who is environmentally conscious and is doing the right thing."
