SARASOTA COUNTY - Along with living more sustainably, living green also means enjoying the many natural resources we have here on the Suncoast.  Recently, ABC 7's Scott Dennis visited a man-made treasure that attracts hundreds of different bird species -- and the people who like to watch them.

It's not often you get an opportunity like this along the Suncoast.  At the new hill at the Celery Fields Park in Sarasota County, located just east of I-75 off Palmer Boulevard, you have two options to get to the top:  straight up the side, or the scenic route around the edge.  Once on top the 75-foot observation mound, you get a panoramic view of the 450-acre park and beyond.  You can even see the tall buildings of Downtown Sarasota.

The park's name comes from what used to be grown there.  Fancee Farms started growing celery there in the 1920's.  Later in the 1990's, it became a flood storage site to prevent flooding along Phillippi Creek and also to naturally filter the water before it eventually makes its way into the bay.

Today, it's home to more than 200 species of birds.  We spotted hungry ospreys scoping out their breakfast from high above the water.  Even pelicans can find a meal here or just a spot to rest.  The park draws birds and bird watchers.

There's a bridge and covered deck area that provides the perfect spot over the water to spot birds and other wildlife.

And there are also miles of trails for walking or biking or if you're up to it, a little hill climbing.
