"My first day on ABC 7 was October 19, 1987. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell more than 500 points that day. I knew immediately there was only one way to go . . . up!" Indeed, Richard's first day as the station's business commentator was a memorable affair. Since then, he has delivered ABC 7 viewers a perspective on the day's money matters, good or bad, offering insightful analysis and an intelligent perspective of the world of finance.

A native of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Richard earned his B.A. Degree at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. His professional career includes working at Blunt Ellis & Loewi, Kidder Peabody and Citi Smith Barney. In addition to serving as ABC 7's Business Commentator, Richard is currently a Senior Vice President, Financial Advisor at Robert W. Baird & Co's Sarasota office. Richard Stern has been a Financial Consultant since 1976.

For many years, Richard has committed much of his time to civic activities. In the past he has served on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Sarasota County, the Volunteer Center of Sarasota County, the Wellness Community of Southwest Florida, the Sarasota-Manatee Jewish Federation, the Sarasota-Manatee Jewish Foundation and the Sarasota-Manatee Jewish Family and Children's Service.

Richard lives in Sarasota with his wife Kathy. The couple has two children, Jeff and Jessica. Jeff is a graduate of Tulane University with a degree in Finance. Jessica is a graduate of The College of Charleston with a degree in sociology. She later earned a Master's Degree in Psychology. Richard's wife Kathy is a very active volunteer in many areas of the community.

Richard also keeps very busy as a featured speaker at many civic and fraternal meetings.
