WAAY-TV, the ABC affiliate in Huntsville, Alabama has an immediate opening for a Bureau Chief/News Reporter. The successful candidate for this job will have the ability to report as Multi-media Journalist as needed for all newscasts.

We are looking for applicants with a minimum of 2 years working in a television newsroom. Must be able to write and edit package stories and cut down versions for voice-overs, etc, using non-linear editing and tape to tape editing. Proven ability to go live from the field or in the studio with inserts or interviews. Also, write stories, post video and photos to the station’s websites and social networking sites, as well as any news partners associated with WAAY-TV. Strong writing and communication skills are a must. Complete assignments within assigned deadlines. Familiar with ENPS. Generate original story ideas. Coordinate ideas for original series and sweeps reports. Be able to work a variety of shifts, including holidays, irregular hours and weekends. Be able to obtain and maintain an Alabama driver’s license. Care for and maintain news vehicles and station equipment. This includes driving safe and being courteous while operating any station vehicles and using any station equipment. Provide written news philosophy on resume. Candidate must have graduated from college with degree in Journalism, Mass Communications or equivalent. Ability to carry and maneuver heavy equipment in the field under extreme circumstances and weather conditions. Ability to understand and orally communicate in English; ability to read computer monitor information (words and data); ability to hear detailed spoken communication; ability to remain sedentary for long periods; ability to perform manual dexterity tasks with hands and fingers. And, ability to analyze data, concentrate, reason and write; and ability to work under emotional stress.
