SARASOTA, FL (WWSB) - Deputies are reminding residents to properly dispose of fishing tackle following the rescue of a bird found in the mangroves of Sarasota.
According to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office, deputies with Animal Services and the Marine Unit assisted a great blue heron that was found completely tangled in fishing line Tuesday.
Video posted on the agency's social media accounts shows one deputy cradling the bird while another frees the animal's legs and wings from the line.
Once freed, deputies released the bird back to its mangrove home, with a stern warning to Suncoast residents to "Please be responsible," and properly dispose of fishing line and tackle.
