VENICE, Fla. – The Venice Shark’s Tooth Festival is one of our unique events here on the Suncoast, and it's a great place to take the family this weekend. It's our event of the week.
Randy Boshela has been collecting shark’s teeth around Venice for 25 years; some he finds on offshore dives, some he finds right at his feet. "Somethines they roll up on the beach...a 5-incher will still come up on the beach."
He'll be showing off his collection at the festival, and there'll be lots of other shark teeth vendors at the festival to help you.
"There are going to be 18 skilled divers, collectors…you can learn from every vendor that is going to be out there. There's not going to be any lack of information.”
Or a lack of other fun things to do. "We've got a great children's game area, we've got some great food, Mote Marine,” says Maggie Rigall, executive director of Special Olympics of Sarasota County.
And all proceeds will go to benefit Special Olympics. "All the funds we receive go to provide equipment and transportation costs."
You can celebrate Venice's heritage at the 22nd Annual BB&T Venice Shark’s Tooth Festival beginning Friday afternoon through Sunday on the grounds of the Venice Airport.
