SARASOTA, Fla. - Sarasota's going Hollywood, as for the 15th year we roll out the red carpet for the Sarasota Film Festival. And that’s our Event of the Week.
The festival opens Friday night, and for the next ten days you're going to be rubbing shoulders with producers, actors, writers and directors from the world of motion pictures.
Independent filmmakers are here to get their movies seen and get them into major motion picture theatres.
"It’s 10 days, 252 films; we have a huge program, we have 112 features, 120 short films, we bring in filmmakers, actors, and producers to Sarasota," says festival director Tom Hall.
The festival kicks off Friday night at the Van Wezel with a tribute to veterans, featuring a screening of the film Last Days in Vietnam. The movie is stunning. "The story is about the fall of Saigon…a powerful movie"
And it's followed by the opening night party, and something new this year on Saturday. "We are doing a great event…that's taking place for the first time this year at Siesta Key Beach…a free screening of The Little Mermaid for the kids on the Siesta Key Beach.”
And throughout the 10 days, a wide range of films will play at the Hollywood 20.
