SARASOTA - Looking for some top-notch entertainment that you haven't seen before? You don't have to travel to New York to find it. In fact, it's right here in our own back yard.

A world premiere opens at the Asolo Repertory Theatre this weekend, and you can be sure the eyes of Broadway are on that stage when the curtain rises on Noah Racey's Pulse. The singers and dancers are some of Broadway's finest, and they'll give you a show you won't forget.

Asolo Rep artistic director Michael Donald Edwards calls Pulse one of the most electrifying projects ever to appear on the American music stage.

The full name is actually Noah Racey's Pulse, because Racey came up with the idea and wrote and choreographed the entire show. "It is a phenomenal culmination of 20 years in the business; development of choreography, and physical staging and music skills that I have. It is the culmination of my career," says Racey.

He dreamed up the idea, and then said to his friends -- some of the biggest song and dance stars in America – ‘let’s do a show’, they jumped at the chance.

"It's like nothing you've ever seen. You may have seen bits before, but this concentration of energy and tap dance and singing – it’s never before been seen in this amount of time," says performer Danny Gardner.

Pulse includes a wide range of dance styles. "There's a little vaudeville, there’s a lot of contemporary energy in the music, it is a banquet of song and dance fed through a common dominator of rhythm," says Racey.

Racey says in Pulse, performers are musicians using their bodies as instruments. Lauralyn McClelland says Pulse is an entirely new style of performance. "It's a celebration of song and dance. There’s a lot of hoofing and a lot of classical-type dance moves that Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers might do. It kind of celebrates the dance that came before us in a modern light."

And as the audience watches the show, Racey will be watching the audience for their reaction to his brainchild. "I hope they will say ‘I was just lifted so high; my spirits were so lifted. I was taken out of this day-to-day and I was taken somewhere else. I was taken on a journey. It's a breath of fresh air. This is not something you've seen before’."

Everybody involved believes Pulse is heading to Broadway, and they're sure it'll be a big hit there. See it while it's still here, through June 16th.
